マテリアルとしては、KING SNAKEデビューモデルであるDetroit Oneを16”サイズボディへと1”サイズダウンし、スケールもミディアム・スケールとしたものである。それに伴いピックアップをベネチアンカッタウェイ薄胴16”ボディとDetroit Oneブロックのコンビネーションが成す独自のボディ・トーンキャラクターを最大限にアウトプットするよう開発。P-90などのゴツっとしたサウンドとは一線を画すゲイン感はそのままにサラっとしたトーンとなっている。分かりやすく言うならばピッキング時にピックが弦に当たる際のテンションを感じない音の出方である。そのためとても弾きやすく感じるのもポイントの一つである。別の言い方をするならば大蛇の動きではなくガラガラヘビのような瞬発性を持つ音の動きである。速いフレーズで弾き倒してもサウンドもまとまりが心地よい。巻弦とプレーン弦のトーンニュアンスの分離を感じさせない。超絶に早いカントリーリックを弾いてもフルアコながらもサウンドが構築されるほどだ。ルックスだけでみるとビザールギターイメージのチープなサウンドと連想されがちだが決してそんなことはない。クリーントーンはもちろんの事、歪ませた際に感じるよりブルージーな歪み具合はHound Dog Taylor SHE’S GONEばりにザラついていて気持ち良い。このLesterにたどり着いたのはSoulville、Sidewinderなどのモデル開発内で色々と試行錯誤した経緯で得たものがあってのことであり、その手のプレイヤーが未だに使用する1960年代に独自なセンスで作られ消えていったモデル群のKING SNAKEでのアップグレードである。

 

Upgrade in the 1960s.

As for the materials, the Detroit One, the debut model of KING SNAKE, was downsized to a 16” body and 1” scale with a medium scale. In line with this change, a unique body tone character created by the combination of Venetian cutaway slim 16” body pickups and Detroit One blocks was developed to maximize output. It maintains a smooth tone distinct from the robust sound of P-90, offering a light gain sensation, making it easy to play without feeling the tension of the strings when picking. In other words, it produces a sound with a quick response like a rattlesnake rather than the movement of a large snake. This results in a well-balanced sound even when playing fast phrases, without a noticeable separation between wound and plain strings. It can handle extremely fast country licks while still maintaining a full-bodied sound of a hollow body guitar. Despite its bizarre guitar image, it is not commonly associated with cheap sound just by appearance. The clean tones are excellent, and the bluesy distortion, reminiscent of Hound Dog Taylor's "SHE’S GONE," is rough yet pleasant. The development of models like Soulville and Sidewinder led to the creation of this Lester model, reflecting the unique sense of players from the 1960s who experimented with various upgrades that eventually disappeared.
